Tree Tunnel Clean Up

This blog is dedicated to those in our community that worked hard to clean up beautiful Maluhia Rd. AKA Tree Tunnel, the scenic route along Kauai's south side bringing you to towns of Koloa and Poipu. The road tunnels through a canopy of eucalyptus trees so old nobody can agree on the true history of who planted them and why, but still everybody comes together to take care and maintain this landmark feature of Kaua'i.

The clean-up was sponsored by Poipu Beach Resort Association, who also sponsored the photography. A noisy morning in an otherwise serene setting, the sounds of landscaping equipment and laughter, a street party on one of the most beautiful roads in the world and I had a blast connecting with some familiar faces in the community.

Final Touch... blowing away the small stuffs

Nokaoi came out with an army of workers for this event and did some heavy lifting, here are some of the boys nice enough to stop working and pose for me :) A lot of really good energy out there.

Dennis Fujimoto Staff Photographer The Garden Isle Today

The guy seldom makes it into the photos so I was so happy to take his picture! For thirty years Dennis Fujimoto AKA The Happy Camper has been been an incredible asset to the community of Kaua'i. When something is happening, he is there, as lead photographer for our islands newspaper The Garden Isle Today, it has been his job to cover events and he documents our islands history while he's at it. But it is his compassionate, approachable and humble nature that draw out the human element in his photography, his pictures tell the stories Kaua'i cares about. His dedication to continuing to tell the story of our diverse community in such a professional and dignified manner for as long as he has makes this guy one of my favorite people on Kaua'i, I'm not the only one, in fact July 27th is Dennis Fujimoto Day. In addition to the contributions his photography makes for our islands people and history, his work in our community has also endeared to this island.

At Salt Pond in Ele'ele

Aloha! Welcome to the Kauai Bliss Photography blog. Please also visit website www.kauaiblissphoto.com to book Portrait Sessions, Weddings and more! Mahalo!

Selected images are from a senior portrait session at Salt Pond with Katy shown in black&white process. Katy is a great personality to work with, I loved being able to take time beyond the session to create unique images. Katy's parents were along to help, Bryan was holding reflectors and a mobile light stand and her mom Heidi assisted with art direction and the idea to honor the painting Ophelia towards the end of the photoshoot.
I want to take the inspiration by Ophelia further... with Queens Pond and flowers... and those images will definitely be shown in color! Thanks to the Davidson's, this was a group effort!

100th Post! PUPPY TIME

Aloha! Welcome to the Kauai Bliss Photography blog. Please also visit website www.kauaiblissphoto.com to book Portrait Sessions, Weddings and more! Mahalo!

My 100th Blog!
For almost 5 years I have been sharing work and thoughts on photography and I wanted to do something a little different and unique for this landmark entry.

I've mostly shared work that illustrated love relationships and families.
Today's blog is about my "immediate family".
If you know me in real life you know that I am single and that I'm very dedicated to my two little dogs that have been with me since their first day on this planet. Simba and Sophie were born in my bed in a little cabin on November 11, 2003. The cabin overlooked Lake Arenal and La Fortuna and was located on the countryside of Tilaran, Guanacaste, in Costa Rica. Their mother was a little long haired chihuahua stray dog with 3 working legs and a big pregnant belly, and considered a nuisance by the owners of Hotel Tilawa where she was dumped. We took the mom in and when she gave birth to those little puppies I totally fell in love... Mama Pequena found a new home with the chef at another hotel in Tamarindo later that year but Simba and Sophie and I were inseparable.

Sophie and Simba have been with me ever since, traveling from Costa Rica to Chicago to Kauai with visits all over the USA. Todays blog is dedicated to my dogs, they are a huge part of my life and I am so grateful to see them enjoying their golden years. These images were all taken within the last month and although they are old dogs I still call our precious moments together "Puppy Time."
So in honor of my 100th blog entry I share images of my own precious family: after all they have been next to me patiently letting me work for the 99 blogs before this one. Love these guys!!

Everyday is a joy with Sophie and Simba and I sincerely hope for many more to come!

Beach Day at Kalapaki's Kauai

Aloha! Welcome to the Kauai Bliss Photography blog. Please also visit website www.kauaiblissphoto.com to book Portrait Sessions, Weddings and more! Mahalo!

The Coberly family visits every year and you might have seen our first session on my website... This session took place last November. I love their casual attitude towards our sessions, we have a good time capturing natural moments of their keiki playing on the beach, a typical tropical day here on Kauai!
